I totally whacked McFly's grandma!!

"Wanted Dead or a Fly" is the third episode of the first season of Oddballs and the third episode overall.

It released on Netflix on October 7, 2022.

Synopsis[]

The day after James kills a fly, Mr. McFly reveals his grandmother is missing. Thinking he killed Grandma McFly, James scrambles to cover up his crime.[1]

Plot[]

The episode starts with a buff James in jail, as he stares at the viewer as they probably wonder how he got in this situation, as he starts the whole story.

In the present, James and Max are meditating but are interrupted repeatedly, but James' mom says it looks like the two are procrastinating, which James shuts the door. As James tries one final time, however, a fly lands on his fade, prompting him to angrily hit it with a book, killing it. Max is horrified that James killed that fly, but James explains if a fly comes into his turf, he could kill it, and if he went into their turf, they could kill him. Max says he never thought of it that way and flicks the fly, happy there'll be no repercussions.

The next day, at the school, Max congratulates James completing his homework, only for the two to hear Mr. McFly sobbing in his classroom. The two enter and ask what's wrong, and Mr. McFly reveals Grandma McFly went out the night prior and never came home. It's revealed she was last seen at James' house. The two's nervousness peaks through the roof as the fly Mr. McFly describes seems to be close to the one James killed. It's revealed Mr. McFly is organizing a search party at the source, much to the horror of James and Max.

James and Max run back into their room, deducting James killed Grandma McFly. Max is sent into hysterics and rocks back and forth. James says to help him find Grandma McFly's body. The two search through the room and find "her" on a piece of bubblegum, in which Max flicks it on the wall by mistake as James slides it with the credit card, puts it in a bag and tells Max their gonna hide the body, so no body, no evidence, no crime.

Suddenly, James' parents start to open the door, and in a panic, Max shoves the bag in his mouth, much to the horror of James as his parents rushes in, asking if the two boys want a raisin. When she asks Max, he almost blows it by saying "No, thank you." in which some of the bag is shown, which James' mom sees and deducts it's a raisin. But James pushes her and her husband out before they can see it fully.

James says he's gonna get rid of the body, but Max doesn't come due to pure guilt, in which James tells him to mimic his voice, which he does. Out in a cornfield, James buries the body with a spoon. When James gets back to the house, however, it's revealed Max killed several more flies, implying this was Mr. McFly's "search party". Max has a mental freak-out at the deed he's done and James says they need to bury them all, this time with a shovel.

Entering the department store, they get the shovel and some hide, before suddenly, they realize Mr. McFly is at the counter as the two hide. Mr. McFly explains the eight relatives went missing, and he'll now put an end to it, pulling out a butcher's knife, implying he'd kill whoever did it. This prompts James to tell Max they need to get home before Mr. McFly.

As the bus reaches a suspicious titled "Slaughter Lane", the two, sitting on the bus, look behind them and reveal Mr. McFly is in his car, staring the two down, making the two deduct that he knows their the murderers. The two jump from the bus and run to a nearby fro-yo store.

At the fro-yo store, the two struggle to eat the fro-yo due to pure guilt. Suddenly, a fly appears on James' fro-yo, and Max, immediately out of paranoia, kills it with a hammer. Max is sent into pure hysterics as he runs home, leaving James alone. James yells for him to wait, and nobody knows their covering up a crime (which he just said in front of the whole store). Suddenly, Maz Scare-ah, who's the waiter, asks James if he wants to go on a free fly-fishing trip with a flyer, as she tells him his outfit is fly. This sends James into hysterics as he breaks the window and escapes.

At home, James locks the door, bolts it shut, and breaks the knob, as he descends further into madness as he begins hallucinating about fly-related objects. After the trip, he wakes up back in his room when suddenly a vehicle approaches, revealing it to be Mr. McFly's car, much to James' horror. Mr. McFly nears the house and James tries to escape through the door, only for the knob to still be broken. James tries to go to the other window to alarm Max, who's revealed he's sitting on a chair (still in tears) listening to a podcast about what to do after murder. Mr. McFly grapples up next to James' window and starts to climb it. James, in a panic tries to cut the grappling hook's line. However, the wind blows the umbrella away as Mr. McFly comes in. James begs him to not hurt him as he apologizes.

Suddenly, Mr. McFly looks through the window and says he wasn't hoping he wouldn't see him, and that things would get both noisy and messy. James starts sobbing at his breaking point that he's sorry and he confesses. Mr. McFly is confused, revealing that the flies he didn't kill were his relatives, that Grandma McFly wasn't even missing. What actually happened was the "search party" was an actual party that he wasn't invited to. And the reason he was at James' house was to clean a gutter, which he's revealing the extra money will send the grandma on a cruise (hoping she'll invite him to the parties). The sun suddenly clears the rain (probably to symbolize relief).

Landing on the ground, James asks that he's not in trouble, and Mr. McFly says no and that it was on his turf and that he's iced men for less, James laughs nervously, but suddenly, several police cars appear in front of the two, and Mr. McFly flees the scene. James is confused, but the cop says he's under arrest for murder. It's suddenly revealed Max ratted James out that he broke, told them everything and confessed to get a ton of money. He apologizes and cries as he runs off (with the money). The female cop says his "friend" cut a deal with the D.A., and now James is going to jail for life as James, very upset, says "Life?" as he's put in the police car.

It cuts back to the scene from the beginning, as James says that's how he ended up here and it's not too bad, as he says nobody can interrupt him while he does his homework, which the female cop says it looks like he's procrastinating. But suddenly, she lets him out, much to James' confusion, saying it's only been a day. The female cop says she meant "fly life" and says they don't live long.

Exiting the prison, Max comes to pick him up seeming with a car. But it's revealed it was a different man's car. James helps his friend up and Max apologizes for being star-struck with greed and selling James out. James forgives him, since it made him super ripped. As they hug, a mosquito suddenly arrives and James kills it, much to the horror of Max. James says to relax, but then Max says that the two are on the mosquito's turf, which means the mosquitoes can basically kill them. Suddenly, a loud swarm of mosquitoes arise from a tire and start chasing the two, who start fleeing, ending the episode.
